A Raw and Honest Single ‘Wasn’t Gonna Be Me’ from Local Rainbow

Local Rainbow have released their second single of the year ‘Wasn’t Gonna Be Me’ - a unique release, very different from her previous ‘Boys in Bands’ single earlier this year. It’s about holding onto what could have been within a relationship and finally letting go.

Dreamy piano and soothing vocals start, setting the melancholic tone. The piano develops and the lyrics ‘I thought I’d be the girl you marry’ is sung beautifully accompanied by instrumentals and the hint of wedding bells.

A clever addition bringing you closer to the scene created within the lyrics.

Coming in at five minutes, this track has chance to explore multiple instruments. A piano being the first break in the song before a nice arrangement of violin and acoustic guitar. I can hear hints of influence from Phoebe Bridgers and Maisie Peters.

Towards the end, the vocals add depth with harmonies and you can hear the impressive vocals as high notes are hit.

‘Wasn’t Gonna Be Me’ is dynamic and interesting. Through the instrumental and mellow vocals, it makes the track emotional and expressive a beautiful combination of an emotive song. Although very different from her previous work, it is clear Local Rainbow can go from a grungy punk themed and indie pop vocals to a mellow vulnerable track effectively.
