Approaching the end of the year Local Rainbow has one more treat for us – A brand new single titled ‘19’. Already releasing the successful ‘Boy’s in Bands’ with over 20,000 streams on Spotify and ‘Wasn’t gonna be me’ this vibrant, yet personal release is another one to look forward to. It discusses the difficulties of navigating life as both an adult and a teenager while comparing yourselves to others, a very relatable topic to many.
It’s clear from the start that this track is quite different from Local Rainbows other releases but still incorporates her distinctive vocals. These are cleverly produced to sound isolated at the beginning when discussing ‘doom scrolling’ - I feel as though this sound almost captures exactly what that feels like.
Clap sounding drums and a steady beat come in at an effective time, helping to add an important build up in the song before the chorus. The track becomes more vibrant here with the electric guitar and harmonies despite the lyrics discussing teenage struggles the contrasting tone is bold and unique.
The pop style chorus is catchy feeding cleverly into the bridge with similar chords, yet they are played differently which keeps the song consistent but also adds variation, a good combination. The lyrics become more inspirational toward the end a message of doing what’s best for you, an important lesson to take away.
Local Rainbow doesn’t shy away from including personal touches in her music and lyrics. ‘19’ is no different. Incorporating more electric guitar and harmonies has really helped to set this one apart. Diving into such a vulnerable topic is never easy but in ‘19’ this is done well through honesty in the lyrics and the decision to juxtapose the sound and tone. I’m looking forward to seeing even more of what next year has in store for Local Rainbow!
Make sure to listen to ‘19’ now!
